Abbey beat Cammell Laird 2-1

Abbey Hey moved up to second place in the NWCFL First Division South after a 2-1 victory over a tough Cammell Laird side at the Abbey Stadium.

A Jordan Lazenbury double secured all three points for the home side, despite conceding a penalty late on in the game.

After an eventless first half, Abbey took the lead three minutes into the second half as Kieran Nolan played a superb over-the-top pass to Lazenbury, before the forward brought the ball down onto his left foot and smashed it past the keeper to give the home side the lead.

Lazenbury grabbed his second goal of the game and doubled the home side’s lead with twenty minutes to go. Capitalising on a mistake at the back from Cammell Laird before lobbing the goalkeeper from 25 yards out to fire the ball into the back of the net.

The visitors grabbed a late consolation from the penalty spot through Kieran Hamm nine minutes from time, but they couldn’t find a way back into the game as Abbey Hey recorded another three points in the league.

With Christmas around the corner, the Abbey will rest up and recharge themselves for their upcoming league game against Wythenshawe Amateurs, which will take place at The Abbey Stadium on Monday 27th December (3pm kick-off).
