Match Preview – Eccleshall FC

Abbey are back on the road this Saturday as we travel down to Staffordshire to take on Eccleshall.

Managed by Liam Kelly, who took over at the start of September, earned his second win as manager on Tuesday night with a 6-4 win over Wythenshawe Amateurs.

Despite winning in midweek, Eccleshall have only won three times all season, as they currently sit in 17th place in the league table.

Terry Hincks’ side will very much be going into this weekend’s game as favourites, as they returned to winning ways last weekend with a comfortable 5-2 victory over Hall Road Rangers in the FA Vase Second Qualifying Round.

Kick off is at 3pm at Pershall Park.

Eccleshall Club History

Based in Staffordshire, Eccleshall Football Club were founded in 1971, originating from staff at the Eccleshall Secondary School playing under the name of Eccleshall Old Boys.

The club soon found success in the 1973-74 season, winning the Division Three Cup and gained promotion from the Mid-Staffordshire League, before winning the Division Two Cup the following season.

Following back-to-back league title wins in 2002 and 2003 respectively of the renamed Midland League, the former Staffordshire Vase winners (2002-03 season) were promoted to Division One of the North West Counties Football League.
