Ten goals for Abbey in St Martins demolition

Abbey Hey moved up to third in the North West Counties First Division South with a 10-1 thumping of bottom of the league St Martins.

The win moves Abbey up one place in the league table, who now sit two points behind league leaders West Didsbury and Chorlton after they could only draw at home to Ellesmere Rangers.

It didn’t take the home side long to take the lead at the Abbey Stadium, as new club captain Aaron Fleming headed home a Dylan Norris corner after only seven minutes.

Abbey went into the break four goals to the good, as Ben Halfacre took his goal tally for the season up to 12, as he completed a hattrick within 23 first half minutes.

Jordan Lazenbury made it 5-0 four minutes into the second half as he lifted the ball over the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner after being played in behind with a quality long ball over the top.

Nine minutes later Dillon Norris got in on the act as he made it 6-0, he struck a low effort beyond the keeper into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Abbey wouldn’t be stopped there though as a goal from sub Dylan Fitzgerald and three more from Lazenbury put the home side 10-0 up as they approached the final ten minutes of the game.

The league’s bottom side did find a way back into the game from courtesy of a controversial penalty decision. They scored from twelve yards out but it wouldn’t be enough as they fell to another defeat in the league as they remain winless so far this season.
